DINE for Churches

Sunday, mixed.

Built in church services, where the mix has to be right with no second take, and whoever is on the desk this week may have started last month.

For Mac. Free for 14 days, then $39.99 a month or $249 once.

What Sunday asks of a sound team.

A different person every week.

Rotas change. The volunteer on the desk might be a musician, a teenager or the pastor’s spouse. The mix can’t depend on who turned up.

Two audiences at once.

The room hears the PA. Hundreds more hear the stream, on phones and laptops, at a different loudness, with none of the room’s help.

No second take.

Feedback during prayer or a muted mic in the sermon is heard by everyone, live and in the recording.

For whoever’s on this week.

Check Inputs gives every mic one word before anyone walks on. Controls are named for what they do: WARMTH, CLARITY, SMOOTH. Run TUNE MIX in rehearsal and the band is mixed before the doors open.

For the volunteer

Five words that mean something. WARMTH, CLARITY, SMOOTH, STEADY, CLEAN-UP. And a sentence telling you which one to touch.

What DINE did
  • Took out the rumble from the lectern and the stage, below 90 Hz.
  • Made his words clearer around 3 kHz, where the organ was covering them.
  • STEADY evens out loud and quiet sentences by about 4 dB.
  • CLEAN-UP keeps the room quiet between his sentences.

TUNE CHANNELPUT BACK 8:40 PM

The engineer’s words, gate, compressor, de-esser, are in Advanced.

The sermon gets its own chain.

Speaking mics go to their own SPEECH bus and are never compressed with the singers. Turn on speech priority and the band steps back a few dB whenever someone talks, then returns.

When someone talks, the band steps back.

Speech priority. Off until you want it.

Lock what the congregation hears.

LIVE SAFE holds routing, deletes and re-tunes once the service starts. DIM and MUTE reach every feed but your headphones in one press. Scenes move from Worship to Speech as one undoable change.

One press when it goes wrong.

DIM and MUTE on every feed but yours.

Your headphones stay on.

Solo without anyone noticing.

Check the pastor’s lav or a backing vocal in your headphones while the room and the stream keep the mix. A second device just for your ears if you want one.

MONITOR SOLOSOLO IN PLACEAFLPFLDIMCLEAR SOLO

Monitor solo is the default. Solo in place is there for mixing a recording, and says so when it is on.

A stream that sounds like the room.

The broadcast master lands on the loudness the video platforms expect, under a true-peak ceiling. Give it a worship record you love and DINE aims the tone at it.

Make it sound like this.

Give it a record you love. The master is aimed at its tone and loudness.

One week, start to finish.

  1. ThursdayRehearsal

Record every input. Run TUNE MIX on the rehearsal so the band is mixed before Sunday.

  2. Sunday, 8:30Soundcheck

Apply this week’s input map. Check Inputs flags the one mic that’s silent.

  3. Sunday, 10:00Service

LIVE SAFE on. Worship scene, then Speech for the sermon. Solo quietly in your headphones.

  4. Sunday, 12:00Stream

The broadcast went out at the platform’s loudness. The recording is already on disk.

  5. TuesdayRemix

Open Sunday’s tracks, TUNE MIX on what you recorded, export clips for the week.

Church questions

Will it work with our console?

If your console or stage box sends its channels to a Mac over USB or network audio, DINE can record and mix them.

Can a new volunteer run it after one rehearsal?

Yes. The Simple view shows five words per channel and a sentence saying which one to touch. Run TUNE MIX in rehearsal, and on Sunday the mix is already there; LIVE SAFE keeps any change small once the service starts.

Can we keep using the console for the room and use DINE only for the stream?

Yes. Send the console’s channels to the Mac and let DINE mix the broadcast at its own loudness. The room mix on the console is untouched.

Where do the recordings go?

Every armed input is written to its own WAV file, in a plain session folder on your Mac. Back it up, share it, or open it on Tuesday and remix.

Ready by soundcheck.

Hear a service above. Then run TUNE MIX on your own band this Thursday.
